2012 Traverse City Comedy Arts Festival Canceled

Winter months often bring a slow season for many industries. Tourism included. However we all know that Traverse City likes to break that mold and hold many festivals during the dead of winter.

Last year saw the Beer Fest and Arts Comedy Fest occur on the same weekend. In January 2011 the Beer Fest agreed to host their event February 3-4 while the Comedy Arts Festival occurred February 9-12.

Now that it’s closing in on 2012, Traverse City gets word that the Beer Festival has been scheduling their events during the allotted Comedy Arts Festival. Michael Moore, Jeff Garlin, and the Traverse City movers are very disappointed.

Moore and Garlin have been volunteering their time to drive commerce to Traverse City while putting smiles on people’s faces in a tough time. The Comedy Arts Festival will not occur this year and plans are in the works for setting the dates for the 2013 festival. The Mt. Pleasant movers thank everyone for their time and regrouping over this year will make the festival that much greater.

Sports Fever!

Sports are a buzz here in Detroit. The Tigers are back in the playoffs and playing after a strong season. Their first opponent is the New York Yankees after winning the AL Central. Justin Verlander is proving himself to be one of the best pitchers in the game; hopefully they can carry the momentum forward. The Lions are also playing well. They are one of two teams that are left undefeated. This has been long awaited for Lions fans, but it’s easy to see why they are having success when they have Calvin Johnson on offense and Ndamukong Suh on defense. Detroit Movers are excited and looking forward to what lies ahead for Detroit sports.

Kindess Still Lives in Detroit

Those who say there are no good people left in the world today were proven wrong today in Detroit. A 101 year old woman was recently evicted for taxes not paid on hour house which she has lived in for some 60 years. Earlier today the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Brian Sullivan informed ‘The Detroit News’ that their agency will be picking up the tab for taxes owed, removed all padlocks from her house, and would allow her to live there. "We just to make sure that Mrs. Hollis knows that her home of many years is hers to live in for as long as she wants," Sullivan said. While evicted the resident, Hollis, became very disoriented making such things like finding a good Detroit Mover much more difficult and even forgot about her daily medication.

Here Comes the 500!

It is Memorial Day weekend, so you know what that means. It’s time for the Indianapolis 500. It is the 100th anniversary of the race, and we are in store for a great race. One of the biggest stories of the race is Danica Patrick. Of course, she is known for being the only woman to lead the Indy 500 in the history of the race, but that is not the story. She will be switching over to NASCAR races full time starting in 2012, so this could possibly be her last year in the race.

So who will win? Will Danica pull it off or could it be defending champion Dario Franchitti from Great Britain? Either way we certainly are in for a great race. After all it isn’t called "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” for nothing. Indianapolis movers and Morse Moving & Storage will be watching; you better be too!

McNamara Federal Building Explosive Device Was There for Weeks

You really have to wonder what people were thinking in this situation. An explosive device was recently found at the McNamara Federal Building in downtown Detroit. The city’s bomb squad was called in, they took the device away and promptly had it detonated. You would be wrong if you assumed that the order of the events concerning the bomb went along the lines of: 1) Bomb found. 2) Bomb squad immediately alerted. 3) Bomb disposed of.

Instead, it took three weeks for any authorities to be contacted. The bomb was found by a security guard way back on February 26. The employee stored the explosive in a locked room for three weeks, even alerting their supervisors to the existence of the explosive device. Why they did not immediately take action, we still do not know. Truly, this is a head scratcher throughout Detroit.

Cabrera Strikes Out (At Life)

Interesting start to the baseball season with the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera. We all knew the previous result of Cabrera's wild night with the report that he was arrested on drunken driving charges and two counts of resisting an officer without violence. This occurred after officers found Cabrera's smoking Land Rover and then Cabrera on the side of the road, enjoying some scotch. From all of the reports, it sounds like he was in rough shape, throwing out, and probably slurring, the key phrase "Don't you know who I am". As it all turns out, Cabrera had some interesting things to say even before he was arrested. When Cabrera was denied service at a nearby BBQ joint, because the kitchen had closed, he threatened to kill the staff and blow the place up. Yeah. Nice guy. This should be an interesting season.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Executing Massive Employee Relocation

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will perform a large corporate relocation of more than 3,000 employees in May 2011. The employees will be moved by a Detroit moving company from Southfield to Detroit’s Renaissance Center, starting with 200 employees. These employees are expected to being working at the Renaissance Center May 2nd (here’s hoping the employee relocation is as efficient as possible for these people to start work so soon!)
